The Gran Lareyn Lagrein 2015 by Weingut Loacker was awarded Best Lagrein in the seventh edition of the contest dedicated to this grape variety at the Hotel Fair in Bolzano on October 19th 2017.

The competition “Tasting Lagrein” is organized by Bolzano Fair in collaboration with the Consorzio Vini Alto Adige. 68 wines were tasted by a jury made of international and Italian wine journalists and lead by Pierluigi Gorgoni, curator of Autochtona, among other things.

Lagrein is a peculiar grape variety with unique characteristics. It can only be found in Alto Adige and it is grown with love and passion by Loacker since 1991.

Around 10.000 bottles of Gran Lareyn Loacker are produced from grapes grown according to biodynamic principles in the vineyards located at 400 – 480 mt. a.s.l. on the gentle slopes of Santa Giustina and, in part, in the Lagrein Vineyards in Gries, particularly suitable for this native grape variety.

Aged in barriques and in large barrels for at least two years, our Lagrein stands out in 2015 for intensely fruity aromas that go hand in hand with hints of eucalyptus, violet, dark spices and vanilla.

We were glad to celebrate this prize with our friend and colleague from the association Tirolensis Ars Vini Josephus Mayr from the winery Unterganzner who won the awards as best “Lagrein Riserva” in the same contest.
