Why our approach is rewriting the rules for Brunello

7 Dynamic Brunello Crus: Old roots, new path: A new approach to a Brunello single vineyard concept.

Brunello di Montalcino - one of Italy's most legendary wine regions, known for big names, centuries of tradition, and a set of rules that could hardly be stricter. Naturally, only the best grapes are used for the wine. But do the best grapes come from exactly the same vineyards every year?

Our answer: yes and no!

With our 7 Dynamic Brunello Crus, we show that the smallest differences in microclimate and terroir can give a vineyard a lively heartbeat. We have rethought the concept of single-vineyard Brunello and developed a system that expresses the character of each vineyard in the best possible, vintage-specific way. And this is exactly what turns the previous way of thinking on its head.

What are the 7 Dynamic Brunello Crus and why are they revolutionary?

Our 7 crus are not simply individual single parcels or “vignas” - they are the smallest areas in a large vineyard with a dynamic heartbeat, where the heart decides each year anew how strongly it can and may beat.*

This means that the vintage, in harmony with the terroir, decides which grapes are destined for the centerpiece. Instead of sticking rigidly to a single-vineyard philosophy, we pursue a dynamic approach:

Infrared sensors:

We use infrared sensors to define the growth strength of each vine.

New every year:

These measurements are taken new each year, redefining the grapes for the cru.

Customizable:

This categorization helps us to adapt each tiny vineyard work to the particular growth strength of the vine, supporting it and improving the quality of the grapes.

This approach allows us not only to preserve the unique expression of each site but also to respond flexibly to the challenges of each vintage.

*The heart symbolizes the center of the cru area, a zone where most of the cru quality vines are located. Depending on the vintage, this heart is larger or smaller, as the growth strength of the vines is stronger or weaker depending on the climatic conditions (hot, wet, cool). This is why new measurements are taken every year to decide flexibly which vines are really destined for the cru and thus guarantee the highest quality.

The last two crus are still in their discovery phase

We are observing how they develop and what character they will reveal.

A single vineyard concept for Brunello invented to spark discussion

As in all areas, we like to think outside the box. We question traditions and look for ways to develop viticulture further. The wine world is changing, the climate is changing - why shouldn't our way of working adapt too?

Those who break conventions are not only greeted with applause. But that's exactly the point: with our 7 Dynamic Brunello Crus, we are writing a new story for Montalcino - a story in which the wine itself decides what it wants to be.
